A Message From Our Founder

Jacob Baraza Abumba

Water is life, yet millions still struggle to access safe drinking water. Growing up in Kenya, I witnessed firsthand the daily challenges communities face—long distances to water sources, high costs, and unreliable supply. This inspired me to study water engineering and dedicate my career to solving water challenges.

My journey has taken me from working with Transparency International-Kenya, researching corruption in the water sector, to CESPAD where I implemented water and sanitation programs in arid regions, to advising on locally-led adaptation in Africa and Asia while working with Rijkdienst Voor Ondernement (RVO), a government agency in Netherlands.

At WPI, we bridge the gap by connecting global expertise with local realities. We work alongside businesses, investors, cities, NGOs, philanthropists, and research institutions to ensure that water solutions are not only innovative but also sustainable, community-driven, and resilient to climate change.
